Hello all! I am needing a prayer request sent to as many people as you know will faithfully pray for us. As most of you know Mike & I have a 2 year old son, Hagan Lee, & another boy on the way! I am almost 23 weeks along & need to make it to 37 weeks, which would be the end of February. We found out that our new little one has a birth defect called gastroschisis, where his intestines are on the outside of his body. This defect is fixable with surgery after birth & a stay in the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) for several weeks. We have been given a great case scenario, with the amount that is currently exposed the doctors are hopeful that he can have surgery at 1-2 days of life, with only a 2-3 week stay in the NICU. We will be delivering at St. Mary's Hospital in Missouri, just a little over an hour away. Pretty soon i will have another ultrasound and we will know more, at that time we will get to meet the pediatric surgeon & nurses & tour the NICU. They will then tell me how often I will need my level 2 ultrasounds & stress tests. Usually at 30 weeks they recommend weekly ultrasounds & bi-weekly stress tests so they can closely monitor the baby. We need all the prayers that we can get! He is a healthy baby thus far, his intestines are just on the outside rather than the inside. Please pray that we have no complications from here on out & after his delivery & surgery. I will keep u posted as I have new information. We are all handling this as well as we can, I handed it over to God a few weeks ago & am letting him handle it, it is way too big for any of us to fix on our own. We need God's help, so please send this on & continue to pray for us! Thank you to all of you who already know about our situation & have been praying for us, we really appreciate it! This is AHS former Coach Dodd Hawthorne's brother Call for prayer Todd Hawthorne is a 1989 graduate of Kinston. He is married to his high school sweetheart and has 2 daughters (one graduated this past year and the other is still in high school). Just this summer he was diagnosed with amyliodosis (a rare disease that can attack the vital organs). He went in to have gall bladder surgery and the doctor noticed a problem with his liver - going ahead and taking a biopsy. Things have been down hill from there. This disease has aggressively attacked his body attacking his liver, heart, and lungs. He has started chemo (22 tablets a day). On Monday he went back to B'ham where the doctors drew 4 liters of fluid from his stomach. He went into cardiac arrest from the drop in potassium. He is now on a respirator trying to relieve some stress from his heart. He is also on dialysis due to the fact that his kidneys are not functioning properly. The doctors are hoping that when his potassium levels come back up he can be taken off of the dialysis machine. Also, this summer Todd accepted Christ and was baptized at Ino Baptist Church. Todd has placed his faith in Christ. I know that God can heal Todd if that is His will. I am asking that everyone pass along this message to everyone on their contact list. Prayer is our link to that healing God. In praying please ask God to give Todd the strength, courage, and comfort that will be needed to endure this disease. Please also include his wife and daughters in this prayer.

I am sending this prayer request for my wife's nephew Gavin who has just been diagnosed with a Mitochondria Disease. He will be 3 years old on September 28th and has just started walking and he cannot talk yet, but we are very hopeful and are praying for a full recovery from this. Currently there is no cure.
The attached flyer (Power Point) will explain more about him and the disease.
A fund raiser and bike ride in Gavin's honor will be on October 3rd,2009 to raise money for The Mitochondria Foundation to help find a cure.
